Expo 2020 Dubai, the competition for the design of the Italian Pavilion gets underway

The race at Expo 2020 Dubai comes to life. The international competition for the design of the Italian Pavilion, which will represent our country at the Universal Exhibition from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021, was announced today.

The competition is organised by Invitalia, the Development Agency led by Domenico Arcuri, on behalf of the General Commissioner for the Italian participation in the Expo, Paolo Glisenti. The technical and economic feasibility projects must be received by December 17, 2018 and will be evaluated by a commission of high national and international standing. All procedures are also subject to prior verification of the legitimacy of the acts by the ANAC, the National Anti-Bribery Authority.

The value of the call for proposals is 2,738,000 euros, adding the total prize of 290,000 euros awarded to the first three classified and the estimated prize, net of VAT, for the subsequent tasks of executive design, supervision of works and coordination of safety during execution, which may be entrusted later. The total value of the competition is subject to increase up to the amount of € 3,806,600, in the event of an increase in the value of the work to be designed.

The aim of the competition is to create a Pavilion at the forefront of innovation and aesthetics, highly attractive to visitors and able to express a contemporary Italy without forgetting the humanistic ideal and the Mediterranean lifestyle.

The structure will enjoy a strategic position from the point of view of flows: it will be built on a plot of 3,420 square meters and will intercept public traffic leaving the UAE Pavilion (250 meters away) and passing through the North Park, one of the main green spaces of the entire exhibition area.

In line with the Expo 2020 theme “Connecting minds, creating the future”, the concept around which the Italian Pavilion will revolve will be “Beauty connects people“: beauty as an element of connection between people, but also as an expression of creative genius and cultural richness. And then innovation and digital: the whole Pavilion will be a great showcase to express the innovative and creative potential of Italy, especially in the eyes of countries in the Me.Na.Sa area (Middle East, North Africa, South Asia) considered a region full of opportunities for the Italian economic system.
