Salone del Mobile.Milano 2018

The 57th edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano will take place at the Milano Rho Fiera from April 17th to 22nd. This year’s edition promises to be a new starting point which is the reason why the Salone del Mobile.Milano has drawn up its first Manifesto, not just as an act of affection towards the city and all those players who have determined its success but above all a declaration of intent that lays the foundations for a new way of thinking, creating systems and design.
The Salone del Mobile Manifesto is intended as the driving force behind a new way of thinking about the event and the city: the invitation to innovate is an exhortation not to give in to self-celebration but to look beyond what has already been done, to set goals such as sustainable quality, collaboration, inclusion and sharing and the development and enhancement of young people’s talent and cultural heritage. In this way, it will be genuinely possible to created design and architecture that is more attentive to the needs of a constantly evolving society which will boast futuristic projects but which also needs a wide range of emotions for living in everyday life.

In order to underline and reinforce the link with Milan, the 57th edition of the Fair will go outside the walls of the event and investigate the relationship between nature and living with a large-scale exhibition-installation. From 17th to 29th April, in front of the Palazzo Reale in Piazza del Duomo, a pavilion designed and developed together with the Carlo Ratti Associati international design and innovation studio will be erected which will offer ideas for green design in domestic interiors.

Also this year, the Salone del Mobile.Milano wil be focused on rewarding the best in ideas, creativity, innovation and technology: the third edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano Award will be a great design festival that will be celebrated on Friday April 20th in Palazzo Marino. The tremendous productive and organizational commitment of those companies and all those designers and characters who contribute to making Milan the most interesting and attractive place in the world during that week will be officially recognized.

The Salone Internazionale del Bagno/International Bathroom Exhibition is now established as a growing and dynamic trade show which is now in its 7th edition and boasts 228 exhibitors. In an enlarged exhibition area compared to the previous edition, the best in international products is on display ranging from furniture and accessories to shower stalls and sauna systems, from porcelain sanitary ware to radiators, and from coatings and taps to bathtubs to whirlpools.
Discovering, following, developing and offering concrete possibilities to young designers under 35 is the primary goal of the SaloneSatellite. On the eve of the new edition, the event reconfirms its vocation and the desire to kick-start conversations, reflections and surveys on the future of design.
This year the theme assigned to the selected talents is “Africa / Latin America: Rising Design – Emerging Design”. Thus the SaloneSatellite turns the spotlight onto the Southern Hemisphere starting a voyage of discovery that will change our perception and vision of design. The intention is to bring popular design into the limelight and point out what is on offer today or what we can expect to see in the near future in terms of solutions to social and environmental emergencies and an informed future lifestyle.
